Lately I've been seeing the lack of creativity in me. This lack of "the creative response". A normal person should change and evolve .Change is Constant, right ? .
I shouldn't be saying this but I see the same shortcomings in many of my colleagues in college.
People are spending too much time subscribing to wrong thinking processes, just because its easier to subscribe to or to implement.

Innovation is suffering, people are not looking beyond the boundary. Why? This must change, we need to be looking further and further and move to that point. Instead of being chained to the short term. Closed thought, we should do away with it. I should do away it.
2005 is the year to push the edge. Move forward.

Have a great 2005 ! Think Smart. Learn . Attain Knowledge.

January 2005 Will be raining Films in Pune

Entering Bandra station I enquire at the station master's office, "Where is Bandra terminus?".The stationmaster is a short stout man in a cheap suit is busy on the phone, places the receiver on his chest and directs us to the over bridge making expressive jesters.

Over bridge it is then and were off with backpacks and all, dodging oncoming commuters as we climb up the grimy cement steps of the steel truss built to endure the hundreds that use it. Four platforms and a few fast locals to Vihar later we are at the other end of Bandra Station.
In the rickshaw we go, five rupees the driver wants, more occupants enter, till our rickshaw-walla is driving standing up. The journey to Bandra terminus was short and quiet colorful I was told I would have paid attention if I wasn't trying to wrestle a five rupee coin from my pocket.
Our train was waiting for us on platform three all shiny in her, generic imperial, after a quick glance on the waiting list we alight and the Sampark Express from Bandra T to H. Nizammuddin is off.

Morning are frosty in Uttar Pradesh and I learn this quiet fast. Stations in India are epicenters of life, trade, communication they're so much more than merely place

I find it strange that we interact with or come in contact with so many people each day and yet we forget them the next minute, spiff they're gone.
Here are some people I would usually forgotten or would have seemed invisible to me.
Like this boy who was trying to sell me a paper.

Or this lady at the Red Fort.

Or this fellow at Raj ghat.

As usual I also took a lot of pictures of passing flora and fauna. Which as you must have noticed, most of picture fall into this category.

Puppies at the Qutab Minar.

Lone Crow at the Red Fort.

Squirrels at unknown location.

Susie the Peacock (well I know peacocks are male but, he responds to Susie)

I took some pictures of Delhis new and what is newer in Delhi then the Korean, driver less Delhi Metro.

And with the new come the old and Delhi has a lot of old.

Jama Masjid

Jantar Mantar

Red Fort

Qutub Minar

Phew !!

Trivial Thoughts In Dehli

Trivial Thoughts In Dehli

I wrote the following thoughts down on the large yellow post-its pad I carry me.
Random thoughts jotted down in no chronological order.

There is never a whisper in Dehli, always a loud holler or a discombobulate whistle

Everbody is dressed so impeccably in their winter attire, I'm getting a complex sitting here, unshaven, dirty with dirt under my finger nails.

The Qutub Minar is prime real-estate for stray dogs or are there blue bloods.

Nick attracts the colorful green and yellow rickshaws like mosquitoes.

Post-its make up for for lost blog entries.

Normally I won't be seen dead at a Barista, well I'm amazed but in Dehli the Cafe Carmel, a chocolate brownie and Frank Kafka is keeping me going.

At a signal a boy, not even five walks up to me and trys to sell me a Tehelka. Tehelka should know better.I bought the tehelka anyways.Hope the boy gets his next meal.

Women/Girls return my smiles. I like Dehli

My hands are stained, not with blood but with blue ink

Bombay propaganda on Dehli has been incorrect on many extents, yet true on some.Well thats why they call it propaganda.Well I want a Dehli take on Bombay.

Sitting at yet another coffee shop, sipping yet another caramello; Iranian students entertain mr with a beautiful ballad.Guitars are being to work, finnally.

Nick has disappeared I wonder where?

The lady next to me is talking about baking a cake, Boy am I hungry

Ishi, thank you for the Jacket.

Dehli is so well designed and organised. It make me think Bombay and Pune are just conglomerate masses of Chaos.

I quote my grandfather : All rickshaw wallas are crooks.

I sometimes feel like the Indian Candidate for Indian Edition of Catcher of the Rye minus all the scotch and water and cocktails.Where is Jane Gallagher, I wonder
.

Nick - The Dollar is falling. But don't worry it will be long time before we have to worry about it.
Akshay - I like that , I'm growing fat but it will be a long time before I should worry about that

Strange, I know. Wierd, I know

Dehli Darshan

Dehli Darshan

Spent all of today doing Dehli Darshan and is was great. The weather has been simply great, its like Pune in the morning.A distance image pulls through the overcast mass smog(dehlites prefer to use fog) overhead.
Took in all these sites from the Qutub Minar to the Lotus temple to Raj Ghat.Me and Nick had this lovely thali at Andhra Pradhesh Bhavan(you should try it sometime).Enjoyed fabulous drives through to Lutyen's Dehli.
Until tommorrow this Akshay signing off from The City of Dijjns.

A Critique

I wrote a short story(sort of atleast) sometime back (you could check it out here).
I then sent it to one of these proffesional editors. After which I got this response.
Which I think is a pretty good critiques of the piece.

Akshay,
Sorry for taking a while to get back to you. I enjoyed reading this. There
were some funny moments in there. I think, though, that the writing can be
improved. There are way too many adjectives and adverbs, which all can sort
of create clutter in a piece. I know that the adage of "Show not tell," is
kind of cliche, but when you say that "Sophistication oozes out of her...,"
what does that really mean to the reader? What does the reader see in
his/her mind when the word "sophistication" is used? Avoid abstractions. The
story had a nice forward momentum of walking up to the girl, but then you
sort of pull a fast one on the reader by making it a dream, something that
is way overused. Also, when you have a line like, Is this seat taking?"
instead of the grammatically correct, "Is this seat taken?" that shows
sloppiness, which you should avoid in anything you're submitting.

P.S I know many of you people write, great stories .. If you guys want some where to publish, I've researched all these places that will publish you. If you want further email me (email is displayed on the top right corner of the side bar).

Spending a day in a train is always a welcome break. The Long hours you can spend to yourself reading,or snoozing some chota mota dream,or simply savouring the passing scenary or having a rather personal conversation you have only met.The train is trully enjoyable experience.

The 2907 Sampark Kranti Express left Bandra Terminus at 15:45 hundred hours and we arrived at Hazrat Nizamuddin Station at 14:30 the next day.The first thing you instantly sense is the cold pull of Dehli's winter, even at 2 pm,

Hope I have a eventful trip in New Dehli, Akshay out.Pictures soon.

Just Passed Mathura

Hello Everybody,
This Akshay on board the Sampark Kranti Express.Presently I'm somewhere in UP(I know this because we just passed Mathura).
The best part of my day has been stopping over at Bharatpur junction and enjoying my three rupee tea in my terracotta kalhad.
All I can see outside are passing fields of gold, villages, buffalos, dung, more dung and somemore buffalos and of course children going to school.

Long live the wireless internet.

A Whiff of Salt

Whiff of Salt : The 1st Crystal

Walking on wet rocks is an art more than a skill. You have to be absolutely careful, each step being a test of stability. Barnacles are sprinkled all over the hard back of the rocks like a strange acne. You must already know that a barnacle is a type of arthropod belonging to infraclass Cirripedia in the subphylum Crustacea and is hence distantly related to crabs and lobsters so I wont bother telling bother telling you again. But whatever you say they are jagged as the minuscule cartilaginous teeth of sharks. They will shred skin like butter. On the other hand they are a grip to for shoes on the greasy surface of wet of rocks. Hermit crabs speed about hiding from the oncoming tide and the water do not get me started on the water. A layer of salt of forming on my face, I could taste it on my lips and feel it under my shirt.
Many years ago the 23 year old Colombian Merchant vessel, Juan Valdez based port out of Cartagena was abandoned one thunderous monsoon night. The cove was built to scrap this two ton thunderous monster and scrap they did tearing it about metal form metal until was left of the ship was nothing and the only reminder to us that it had ever been there was the cove itself.

I often walk here in the mornings when the tides are low and the wind is plenty and the people are scarce. Walking by my self, buying moments and enjoying the little things.
I have lived with the sea all my 67 years and I had never grown tired of her, never. She seemed as fresh to me as a blooming jasmine. I had grown lonely after Nina that left me and in my solitude I had grown senile. Nina shared my love my sea, we were a strange couple the sea, Nina and me. Now that the sea had left me it was just me and the sea and I filled the my solitude with her.

PS - Well I'm going to add a crystal every 3 days therefore my the dawn of the next year we'll have your self a story. If you are interested in reading other works of fiction go here .

EVA 1996 - 2004

That was a hard sentence write dow, the toughest I've ever written.
I'll miss her presence. Goodbye Eva, this is the farewell I never gave you.
I will miss you .

I wrote on 8th December

You said to write you a song
So here, this is for you
Now as you toss through those lonely nights
Just know there is someone thinking of you
Everyone is waiting for the timing to be right
And we hope it's coming soon
So just rest your eyes and then...
You'll be in love again
We talked and the moon was bright
Your words were glowing as they drifted out of sight
But now the change of the seasons sets in and nothing, nothing feels just right
We fear these nights and then we compromise
Yeah, but morning always comes
So just rest your eyes and then... You'll be in love again

Words from Rest your eyes from Azure Ray. That what I'm planiing to do next.

Flamingoes , Pink

Flamingoes , Pink

At 0100 hundred hours IST today when I will attain freedom form the menacing monster thats are my exams. I'm just so excited, the kind of excitement you get in the airport waiting room before a flight.

Flamingos return to Sewri for annual visit [via Express Newsline]

HE feathered visitors are back.

Nearly 10,000 Greater Flamingos and Lesser Flamingos can now be spotted in large groups on the wet and marshy mudflats of Sewri bay.

* HOW TO get THERE? The closest railway station is Sewri on the Harbour line. From Sewri station, hail a taxi to Colgate Factory. Close to the factory, is an area from where the birds can be spotted. Barely 1 km away is another good spot, near the Sewri jetty.
* WHENS THE BEST TIME? Preferably early mornings, between high tide and low tide.

I have uploaded some picture of my other bird watching adventure on

Tikka Massala may become a Word

Tikka Massala may become a Word

This what curry chef's in the UK and "curry" lovers everywhere have been waiting for a day when they use their favourite dish on the scrabble board. This dish that is probably giving the good ole' fish & chips a run for it money it finally reached it self at doorstep of the OED.

This is whar the entry would look like.
chicken tikka masala, n,
mild curry dish of chicken in a tomato-based sauce, cooked tandoori style (in a charcoal-fired oven). Optional hefty dose of tartrazine lends luminescent orange glow
.

The latest edition of the OED newsletter is online, and includes an "Appeals" section:

The Words or phrases which appear on the Appeals List are those currently being drafted or revised for the OED for which the documentary evidence is incomplete. Often these are slang or colloquial items which cannot be researched in specialist texts and are most likely to be found by a general reader in non-specialized or popular literature. (...) Please note: it is generally safe to assume that examples found by searching the Web, using search engines such as Google, will have already been considered by OED editors.

Other words on the list of appeals include .

hoodie (n.: a hooded jacket, sweatshirt, or other garment) antedate 1990
pick up (v.: break up or dig up with a pick) postdate 1894
pitchable (a.) interdate 14861939
pivotable (a.) antedate 1899
plantswoman (n.) antedate 1968
plausibilize (v.) interdate 16551984
poseable (a.) antedate 1965
posedown (n.: the final stage in a bodybuilding competition) antedate 1978
quad bike (n.) antedate 1989
scrunchie (n.) antedate 1989

I must admit some of these donot have a chance , for example what the heck does plantswoman
mean ? Is it a women who sells pot ?
Well actually after a little google search I wasn't that faraway.

"1. Someone who has extensive knowledge of and experience in gardenning

Knowledge or plants doesn't it make her a gardener ? Why plantwomen ?

But I think other words like pivotable, plausibilize, must have some usage and probably people do not even know they're using Non-Words so to speak.

Dragons ? ?

Candy is Sri Lanka second city and Sri Lanka not being exactly small itself, Kandy is too. Apart from being this quaint little hamlet of a city around this shimmering lake.
Walking around this lake like most lakes you walk you find your ocassional bird , some ducks , kingfishers . But I found this rather large lizard.

Dabba (sid) thinks it's a Komodo dragon. But I thought ---
The Komodo Dragon (Varanus komodoensis) is the largest lizard in the world, growing to a length of 3 metres and weighing between 80 and 140 kg (300 lbs). It is a member of the monitor lizard family, Varanidae.

Dragons have keen senses and are considered among the most intelligent living reptiles.

They are carnivores and hunt live prey, with a stealthy approach followed by a sudden short charge (they can run briefly at speeds up to 20 km/h). They have a strong bite augmented by severe infection of wounds, caused by the some 50 different strains of bacteria in their saliva. After they bite, they release their prey to allow it to die before devouring it; this allows them to avoid injury. Dragons will fight over kills.

No it couldn't be come on.

Silient Screems

In the beginning there was god and then there was man. It is written that we are all same.
We the prodigal children who walk this earth in search and in search we go.

I sit in a large vestibule, moving. I look at life through the side window carefully concealed behind soiled curtains. Air flows out, into the room through a complex labyrinth of vents and condensers and compressors but the effect is not different form cooling, actually thinking back it is cooling.
The room moves, sometimes stops, turns like it has mind of it own. Not knowing I later I find out it has a mind of another.
My room, stops or at least the mind decides to stop. Silence is my fellow companion in this room. Lights are incident on me from overhead at the command of the mind. I look around me and proceed to a tiny opening, which has opened from what was formally wall. Metal steps extend magically to the ground as I step down. The opening reappears as magically as it had disappeared and the room moves on leaving me quiet stationary.
AND stationary I am.

Well as Geetanjali rightfully pointed out Starling Sihaghad was wrongfully posted here when it was to be posted on Pune Blogging.Well the necesscary changes have been made and you could expect the second part of the post there too.

As a space filler I'll tell you why I name my dog (bitch) eva. I like this story well it's got personal significance to me well and is not of much significance else wise but I don't care really.
Anyway we wanted to get a dog and name him Hitler, not that we are anti-Semitic or anything we just wanted to him after a dictator. Since Napoleon was too long and Stalin didn't fit we where left with Hitler the cocker spaniel as a name. But thing go will adopting a pup my parents, my dad in particular fell in love with this black pup, it was love at first sight almost sight. So eva was brought home and were in somewhat of a dilemma what to name her. Therefore we decided to name her eva (evita), after Eva Brown Hitler's girlfriend.
Eva is not very well at the moment hopes she gets well, how I miss that creature.

My Blinking CPU

4 am is an ungodly hour to wake up, simple ungodly. But thats why we've invented the telephone so when it rings, small voices in your head say "Pick it up. These voices only get louder and louder and bang you're up.
On most days all that greets me at 4am is the slow moving ceiling fan and the dimly strangely green light of my blinking CPU and the randomly selected song it plays for me each morning and the cold and the darkness.
Well getting up at hours well before my time has come as always news and on the contrary to what the above has just all said I do not wake up at 4 am unless it is absolutely necessary I stress on absolutely I'm a pretty lazy customer you know. The thing is that time gets the better of me most of the time, I haven't grasped its concept yet its too Greek for me.
Einstein once said that there were only thirteen people in the world who understand the theory of relativity. Well there was this kid in my class claimed he was one them and he then ends up failing physics.
If your expecting something more exciting from me well I'm sorry these exams are sucking out the living hell out of me.
I will leave you with a few picture from my trip to Sihaghad a week or so ago (you could expect a post on that in the future).
